»Soulja Boy Says He Made More Money Than Forbes Reported
»Posted on August 20th, 2010 • By: • Filed In informationnews

Soulja Boy’s pretty boy swag has apparently earned him more money than Forbes gave him credit for.

As previously reported, SB is featured on Hip-Hop Cash Kings, Forbes’ annual list of rap’s top money makers. According to Forbes, Soulja made $6 million in the past year, placing him in the no. 16 slot and tied with T-Pain. But to let SB tell it, the reports are a bit off.

“I made more than $7 million,” he told BET.com. “I’m sure I made more money than some people on the list. I’m blessed and grateful to even be on the list ’cause I’ve been in the game since I was 17. I’m 20 now and I’m on a list with people who’ve been in the game for years.”

As previously reported, Jay-Z came in at no. 1 with $63 million, Diddy at no. 2 with $30 million, Akon took the no. 3 spot with $21 million, Lil Wayne ranked fourth with $20 million and Dr. Dre rounded out the Top 5 with $17 million.

»Soulja Boy Wants To Make A Movie Of His Life
»Posted on August 16th, 2010 • By: • Filed In informationmedianews

Teen-rapper Soulja Boy has just announced plans to hook up with actor/rapper (and Mr Mariah Carey) Nick Cannon for an upcoming film.

The Pretty Boy Swag hit-maker wants to make a run at Hollywood, and feels that his life story is worthy of a big screen release.

He told MTV News US: “Me and Nick Cannon have been talking back and forth for, like, the last year about a movie idea. I did a movie with him earlier this year with Justin Bieber called School Gyrls and it went straight to Nickelodeon.

“It was a good movie, but it was mostly for kids. We were talking back and forth, and he wants me to star in a movie that he wrote when he was, like, 17.

I want people to know my story. Because a lot of people know Soulja Boy and know my songs, but a lot of people don’t know where I’m from or where I came from, how I did it.

“A lot of people do know, but a movie would paint the picture so much better. I wanna do a movie that’s my story, my legacy; what got me here and why I’m still here.”

»Shawty Lo Brings Out Soulja Boy & Many More For ‘Atlanta, GA’ Video

There were plenty of people yelling “Free Gucci,” plenty of people shouting out their city: Shawty Lo orchestrated a huge display of hometown pride on Tuesday afternoon in the ATL while filming his video for “Atlanta, GA,” with Ludacris and The-Dream. Gucci Mane is also featured on the track, but obviously couldn’t make the video because he’s currently in jail.

Still, Lo had no shortage of guest stars, with Cee-Lo and Big Gipp from the Goodie Mob, Soulja Boy Tell’ Em, Yung Joc, Lil Scrappy, Mike Bigga (a.k.a. Killer Mike), Baby D, DJ Montay, Zaytoven, Baltimore Raven Daniel Wilcox, DJ Greg Street and Waka Flocka Flame coming to the set. The video was shot at Bedford Pines housing project and at Club Crucial.

“Him showing me a lot of stuff I didn’t know [and] me showing him a lot of stuff he didn’t know,” Soulja Boy described about their in-studio relationship. “He had an ear for my sound. Of course I had an ear for all the stuff he did. Genius! … It was three different samples that we was working on. On one of them, he was like, ‘I want this to go here, I want you to do this.’ I like when an artist pushes me how he was pushing me. He doesn’t go easy on me…I was in the studio with [Foxx] a couple of days ago working on a new beat for him. All the artists that reached out to me for beats — like Rihanna — my portfolio is only getting longer and longer. With this particular [RiRi] project [it was] like, ‘Whoa!’ because [her rep was] like, ‘Yo, I need you to do something for Rihanna’s album. You got 11 hours. Go!’ It was like, ‘What? I’m all out of pocket.’ How do you make something that’s gonna be a number one hit so fast? But it’s been done before because I made ‘Crank That’ in 30 minutes.”

»SB To Appear On Rihanna & Chris Brown Albums
»Posted on October 31st, 2009 • By: • Filed In informationmusicnews

Talk about an awesome — if awkward — honor. Soulja Boy Tell’em revealed to MTV News this week that he will have the unique distinction of appearing on the upcoming albums by both Chris Brown and Rihanna.

“With this particular project [it was] like, ‘Whoa!’ because it was like, ‘Yo, I need you to do something for Rihanna’s album. You got 11 hours. Go,” Soulja Boy said about the last-minute call to work on an unspecified track from Rihanna’s upcoming Rated R disc.

“It was like, ‘What?’ ” The challenge, he said, was how to cook up some verses that would help make a #1 hit in such a short time. Luckily, he had plenty of experience with working fast, thanks to the 30 minutes he said it took him to write his breakthrough hit, “Crank That.”

The pressure was not as intense when he got the call to guest on a track from Rihanna’s ex, Brown. “I got nothing but love for Chris, that’s my homeboy,” said Soulja of the singer, whose Graffiti will be his first release since his assault on Rihanna in February. “He called me up and he was like, ‘Yo, I need you on this song for my album. Will you come through?’ ”

The answer, of course, was yes — and the result is a tune titled “She’s Bad.”

“My approach to it was, if me and Chris Brown ever did a song together it got to be the best song ever,” he said. “When people hear it, it gotta be automatic, be in all the kids’ heads, all the girls definitely gotta love it, all the females gotta love it. That was my approach to it. I was just thinking, ‘What is the slickest lines I could say to a female to make them fall in love with this record?’ ”

Fans can hear the results when Rated R drops on November 23 and Graffiti is released three weeks later.

»SB Has “Three More Mixtapes for Thanksgiving
»Posted on October 30th, 2009 • By: • Filed In informationmixtapesnews

Soulja Boy puts in work. On the brink of releasing three new mixtapes on Halloween, the teen sensation tells XXLMag.com that he’s got more in store for his fans next month.

“I’m about to drop three more mixtapes [on] Thanksgiving,” he said earlier today (October 29). “Be on the look out for it… I’m probably gonna call them DatPiff, Pt. 2, Cortez, Pt. 2 and… what [else] we got? We got Lambizzie: The Mixtape. The official Black Label mixtape with DJ Woogie; that shit gonna be hard. I’ma do an SOD Money Gang mixtape, too.”

The ATL-bred rapper revealed plans to put out mixtapes on all of the upcoming holidays. “Christmas, I’m droppin’ [on] muthafuckin New Years, I’m dropping on April Fool’s Day,” he said. “Real talk, I’m just trying to hit all big events.”

Paranormal Activity—his tape with DJ Woogie and DJ Neptune, DatPiff, hosted by DJ Holiday and the DJ Whoo Kid, and the DJ Scream-assisted Cortez are all set for release on Saturday. The G-Unit DJ leaked Cortez earlier this week, but SB says there’s no beef.

“That wasn’t my plan; Whoo Kid leaked that shit out,” he said. “See, he knew I had three mixtapes dropping all on one night, so he leaked it for his website radioplanet.tv, but I ain’t got no problem with it because I fuck with DJ Whoo Kid and the whole G-Unit. It’s all love.”
